Position Description:
Save the Children was founded in 1919 and is the world's largest
independent movement for children promoting child rights and poverty
alleviation in over 120 countries. We aim to significantly influence
policy and Practice towards children at the local, national
and global levels, with the active involvement of children and their
communities in the identification of priorities and advocating for
change. Save the
Children in Tanzania is looking for enthusiastic, motivated and result
oriented person with a strong commitment to promotion of children's
rights to take the position of Advocacy Manager - Child Rights to be based in Dar es Salaam with frequent travel to field.
Job Purpose
Advocacy Manager Child Rights is member of Child Rights Governance programme team and the focal person for
management, support and information sharing in relation to project's activities that facilitate key decision makers at national and district levels to understand and enforce child rights through quality policies, plans, by-laws and resource allocation.
Summary of key accountabilities
The Advocacy manager will be responsible for the following among other things: Coordinating district and national advocacy
initiatives/strategies under Child Rights Governance Programme; document good practices for sharing within and across the programmes;
take lead on the implementations of the advocacy activities; monitor
the progress and report the results. Lead the design and production of
regular fact sheets and briefs for MPs, media groups, NGO and CSOs
including providing support and build the capacity of implementing
partners and Children Councils to implement and monitor district based
advocacy plans and document the results.
Also s/he will be responsible for organizing field trips and training
workshops/sessions with key policy makers, MPs, key media groups, NGO
and CSOs, monitor national developments in Vision 2025, National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction MKUKUTA, MDG's, Public Expenditure Reviews and design corresponding programmes activities. Monitor regional and international commitments on children's rights (eg, Convention on the Rights of the Child, African Charter on Rights and Welfare of the Child, MDGs.
Person specification and qualification
Ideal candidate must have at least bachelor's degree ideally in Social
Sciences or other related disciplines and experience working with the
government both at the national and district levels.
S/he must demonstrate practical skills and experience in lobbying and advocacy within programmes, as well as leading CSOs or organization advocacy initiative.
Experience of working with the government officials at district and national level, young people and a commitment to promotion of children's right with better understanding of the international and national child related instruments is essential.
S/he will also be expected to demonstrate skills and experience in developing and managing
advocacy initiatives, monitoring and evaluation and reporting systems,
processes and tools and must be committed to understanding of SC UK's
aims, values and principles and the Child Safeguarding Policy
